St Elphin’s Park Helps Raise Awareness of Fairtrade in Darley Dale

14 March 2010

Darley Dale acquired the status of ‘Fairtrade Town’ in autumn 2009, thanks to much campaigning by several local residents and support from the Town Council and local businesses like St Elphin’s Park, who is proud to support the initiative.

At St Elphin’s Park we buy Fairtrade tea, coffee and sugar for use by staff in our offices.  We also hope to be able to continue serving these items in our restaurant and bistro bar when the next phase of development is completed.

To raise awareness and celebrate Fairtrade fortnight, St Elphin’s Park hosted a coffee morning for residents, friends and neighbours on Friday 5 March 2010.  Guests were able to sample coffee, tea, chocolate and of course biscuits and cakes made with Fairtrade ingredients.  Many of those attending also supported and signed the campaign lead by the Women’s Institute to ask all tea producers such as Tetley, PG and Yorkshire to change their supply to a Fairtrade product.

St Elphin’s Park residents were delighted by the range of products available to buy locally and enjoyable time was had by all.
