Audley Clevedon Set to Welcome US Couple in Retirement Exchange Programme

Residents have come from far and wide to live at Audley Clevedon but for Lou and Murial Schloss, the journey of more than 5,000 miles means they will definitely be expecting a warm welcome on arrival!
The couple are leaving their retirement community in Santa Barbara, California to take part in a retirement exchange programme that will see them sample village life in the UK. Mr and Mrs Schloss will spend time living at both Clevedon and St Elphin's Park in Derbyshire where they will get a taste of retirement living in the UK, taking part in a range of activities on offer at the developments and meeting other residents.
Tony and Carol Gregory from St Elphin's Park village will be representing Audley and take the trip across the pond, spending time in the Maravilla village in the US. Audley initiated the exchange to gain further insight into retirement living, dispel myths and challenge stereotypes of 'old folks' homes.
Nick Sanderson, Audley CEO said: "For too long there have been negative stereotypes attached to retirement living and we're hoping to address these with the exchange programme. At Audley, we have pioneered a new UK concept, a village environment which offers a chance to downsize and maintain independence, but with the security and peace of mind that when extra help is needed, it's readily available without having to move again.
"Retirement villages are already well established and accepted in America and we're keen to share knowledge with SRG and look at ways we can learn from each other, challenge perceptions and develop our offerings."
The couples will be keeping a record of their trip via social media channels with Twitter and Facebook updates, in addition to keeping a written diary.

The first in a series of health and wellbeing classes was held at Audley Clevedon on 12 April.
Local chiropractor, Dr Jason O'Connor from Advanced Wellness Chiropractic Clinic lead the first session, suitably named "Aches, Pains and Creaky Bits".
Dr O'Connor provided advice on how chiropractic techniques can improve general health and wellbeing as well as carrying out demonstrations that can be integrated into daily routines.

Residents and staff at Audley Clevedon will be raising a glass to the Royal couple to celebrate the wedding of HRH Prince William and Kate Middleton this weekend.
The retirement village, located on Ben Rhydding Drive, is hosting a full day of celebrations at its highly acclaimed Wharfedale restaurant to mark the occasion. Commencing at 10am, a canape brunch will be served followed by a live screening of the ceremony at 11am.
Once the royal couple have said 'I do', guests will enjoy a glass of champagne whilst listening to Charlotte Jones of Sing Therapy perform an array of nostalgic and patriotic songs. Celebrations will be rounded off with a tasty afternoon barbeque.
Doug Warren, general manager at Audley Clevedon said: "This is a really special occasion and a great opportunity to get the village together and have our own street party of sorts. We wish the happy couple the very best and hope it's a day to remember."
