Willicombe Park News

What's happening around Willicombe Park

Just over a mile from the heart of Royal Tunbridge Wells, Willicombe Park is well located for transport, shopping, entertainment and culture. The town has been a favoured tourist destination since the 17th century, not just for its spa waters but also as the place to be seen amongst fashionable members of the aristocracy. In fact, Tunbridge Wells gained its 'Royal' prefix a hundred years ago when King Edward VII formally celebrated the town's popularity with members of the royal family.

There's plenty of evidence from the last 400 years still to be seen. The charming traffic-free walkway of the Pantiles, with its cafes and shops, would still be recognised by a visitor from the 1700s. And our visitor would be attracted to the town's parks and ornamental gardens, including the stylish Calverley Grounds and the Victorian beauty of Dunorlan Park.

Plus, of course, there's everything you need today. Shoppers will appreciate the Royal Victoria Place and Great Hall shopping centres - complemented by small independent specialist shops throughout town - while gourmets will discover everything from traditional pubs to fine restaurants. Finally, for even more excitement, the hustle and bustle of London is just an hour away by train.

Audley Fitness Instructor Wins 'Local Legend' Award

27 May 2011

Willicombe Park fitness instructor Sarah Domoney has won a competition to find the 'face' of Tunbridge Wells. Awarded the title of 'Local Legend 2011' by regional website www.tunbridgewellspeople.co.uk, Sarah will be featuring in a huge local advertising campaign and will be seen on billboards across the region very soon.

Sarah was nominated for her passion for helping and motivating people to be positive, get fit, prolong their lives and be happy and the judges chose her based on her 'outstanding work and commitment.'

Sarah specialises in working with the older generation, running fitness classes for people of all abilities, including chair-based exercise for those with limited mobility. Sarah has worked with residents and Club members at Audley Willicombe Park for ten years and her weekly classes are always well attended.
Sarah said: "I feel privileged to be recognised for the work that I do in the community and how it affects people's lives for the better. The award makes all the hard effort and dedication worthwhile.

"It's been proven time and time again that people recover far more quickly from illness if they are fit and healthy; but even more importantly than this, they must have support from like-minded people who really care about them."

Audley Willicombe Park general manager Chris Lally said: "We're very proud of Sarah and look forward to seeing the posters around town. She is a fantastic member of the Audley team and our residents look forward to seeing her every week. She is committed to helping people at all levels and works closely to ensure they can achieve their personal goals."

Willicombe Park Opens Its' Doors

18 August 2010

Heritage Open Days celebrates England's fantastic architecture and culture by offering free access to properties that are usually closed to the public or normally charge for admission. For four days every year in September, buildings of every age, style and function throw open their doors, ranging from castles to factories, town halls to tithe barns, parish churches to Buddhist temples.

This year, Willicombe Park, a beautifully restored Victorian mansion house, will be opening its doors to the public and sharing its interesting past both as a Barnardos Children's Home and as a Training Centre for St Christopher's Nursery Nurses, as well as showing off the wonderful restoration work carried out by Audley to form the vibrant retirement village it is today.

This year, the event will run from Thursday 9 September to Sunday 12 September between 11:00am and 4:00pm with guided tours available.

There will be an opportunity to enjoy a light lunch and/or afternoon tea at very reasonable prices and the bar will also be open during these times.
