Volunteers from Mote House Retirement Village raised £5,500 for the Poppy Appeal by helping to man a stall in The Mall Shopping Centre, Maidstone in the week building up to Remembrance Sunday. Donations from generous shoppers, volunteers and staff members were nearly double those of last year.

Chris Lally, General Manager at Audley Mote House, said: "Remembrance Day is important to our staff and residents and I'm delighted that this year we significantly increased the amount raised for the Poppy Appeal. Funds raised will go directly to supporting members of the Armed Forces, as well as ex-Service people and their dependants."

He continued: "By Summer 2012, the refurbishment work at Mote House will be complete which means that we will be able to host a number of events, including a Remembrance Service which we hope will become an annual community tradition."
