On Saturday 12 July Audley St. Elphin’s Park, the luxury retirement village situated in the Derbyshire Dales, and Merlin Wealth Management teamed up to organise and host the inaugural tennis tournament.

Participants from local tennis clubs in both Matlock and Chesterfield, as well as St. Elphin’s Park owners, competed to win the first ever ‘St Elphin’s Cup’.

A total of 20 men and women of all abilities donned their tennis whites to take part in the round robin style tournament and enjoyed Wimbledon style refreshments on the day.

Tony Barrable (Matlock and District Tennis Club) fought off stiff competition to record the highest number of games and take the men’s title, and Gwen Bagnell was crowned with the women’s title.

A bottle of champagne, donated by Merlin Wealth Management, was also presented to a free prize draw winner, and flowers were presented to both the men’s and ladies cup winners by the Riverbank Floristry.

General Manager at Audley St. Elphin’s Park, Philippa Thompson, commented “We were delighted to host this inaugural tennis tournament at St. Elphin’s Park along with Merlin Wealth Management. Whilst the competition levels were high I am glad that we could bring the community together and we hope that this is an event which can take place each year with the number of participants continuing to increase.”
