Nick Sanderson, CEO of Audley Retirement Villages, said:

“While Britain has an ageing population, it is crucial that we don’t give in to the current negativity and fear around getting older. Ending up in institutional care is not an inevitable outcome of ageing. Taking action early, before a crisis happens, and living within housing that is designed for your needs has a dramatic impact on your health. In fact, research from the International Longevity Centre (ILC) shows that people over 80 living in a home they own where care comes to them as they need are far less likely to be admitted into a hospital for an overnight stay than someone of a matched demographic living in the community. They are also half as likely to go into institutional care as those in standard housing. What’s needed is far greater awareness of the options available that will keep the current wave of retirees independent, and in control of their happier and healthier retirement.”
